Current State of New Mexico or National Registry
certification/licensure as a Paramedic per state requirements---
Current BLS, ACLS, & PALS certification must be obtained within one
(1) year from date of hire --- Current clinical competency must be
demonstrated and additional education/training may be required
Preferred Qualifications:--- Healthcare-related work or volunteer
experience--- Two (2) years' experience as a field paramedic with
an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a
hospitalDuties and Responsibilities:Implements Provider orders
under supervision of Charge RN as allowed under this purpose
description. The following list of skills and procedures is
included:--- Acts as a patient and family advocate, recognizes
changes in patient condition, and reports this information to a
Provider as indicated--- Member of the procedural sedation team---
Airway management, jaw thrust and chin lift, visual
inspection/auscultation, oropharyngeal suction,
nasopharyngeal/oropharyngeal airway, and laryngeal and supraglottic
airway devices--- Application of restraint or seclusion in an
emergency situation in order to ensure the immediate physical
safety of patients, staff, or visitors when other less restrictive
interventions have been deemed ineffective after initiation by a
Provider--- Assists with lifting and transfer of patients---
Assists with the transportation of patients to and from the
helipad--- Blood administration and set-up of rapid infuser---
Cardiac monitoring and 12-lead EKGs; performance of 12 lead EKGs
within 10 minutes of arrival for patients presenting with chest
pain--- Cleans patient rooms and patient monitoring equipment
between patient care episodes--- CPR as indicated and/or directed,
including BVM ventilation and chest compressions--- Cricothyrotomy,
surgical--- Cardiac pacing transcutaneous, cardioversion, and
defibrillation using an Zoll defibrillator--- Documents all
assessments, procedures, and patient care interventions performed
in the electronic record--- Endotracheal/Nasotracheal intubation
and suctioning (patients 13 years of age or older)--- Fall Risk
Assessment--- Foley catheter insertion--- Flow Facilitator duties
on patients presenting through ED lobby. Identifies need to call
Charge RN or Provider for emergent patients --- Legal Blood Alcohol
blood draws at the request of Law Enforcement personnel--- Member
of the trauma resuscitation team--- Paracentesis and thoracentesis
set-up and assistance--- Patient education and training in use of
immobilization devices as well as ambulation assistive devices ---
Pleural (thoracic) decompression--- Point of care (POC) testing
including glucose, urine dip, strep, and pregnancy testing, i-Stat
testing of venous and arterial blood samples, and blood alcohol
testing via breathalyzer analysis--- Positive pressure
ventilation--- Receives and documents EMS patient reports and
advises the Charge RN and/or Provider of patient condition and
whether the patient meets trauma, stroke, STEMI, or sepsis alert
criteria--- Nasogastric tube insertion and removal--- Reports to
the Charge RN or ED Clinical Coordinators any broken or
malfunctioning equipment--- Responds as member of ED code team to
patients requiring resuscitation in other departments on the first
floor of the hospital for the purposes of performing CPR and
establishing IV access--- Set-up and monitoring of chest drainage
systems and suction equipment--- Set-up suture trays, central line
trays, and LP trays according to sterile procedure and assist with
procedure--- Spinal immobilization and vehicle extrication for
patients self-presenting to the ED with suspected spinal injury---
Splint application and neurovascular assessment--- Suture and
staple removal.--- Take and document vital signs. Repeat vital
signs per policy--- Tourniquet application--- Facilitating
transportation of patients with diagnostic procedures, admissions,
and discharges--- Universal precautions and infection control
procedures according to hospital policy--- Venipuncture for the
purpose of obtaining blood samples--- Wound irrigation and
preparation for suturing--- Performs other duties as
requested/assigned--- Vascular access Inserting and removing a
peripheral intravascular catheter (including external jugular site)
and intraosseous device Accessing implanted central IV ports,
monitoring central lines--- Administration and evaluation of
medications within scope of practice--- Each employee is
responsible for implementing SJRMC's Service Standards into their
daily work:Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and StewardshipPhysical
Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:--- Must be able to lift
50 lbs.--- Must be able to proficiently perform all manual duties
described above--- Must be able to amputate without restriction---
Must be able to use computer mouse and keyboard for documenting in
the patient care record--- Must pass colorblindness test as defined
by lab testing regulatory requirements
